First of all, Happy (belated) birthday
cnvarbiter!!!
Now, moving on to the book I finished today
:
Taken Liberty
by Steven H. Wilson
You know, it took a long time for me to actually get past the first chapter of this book. That's entirely because I know
cnvarbiter, and I heard his voice while I was reading it, and that made parts of it awkward... (Come on, Steve, at one point you missed the proof reading and referred to Metcalf in the first person - as if there was ever any doubt that he was a self insertion character).... That and the obvious philosophical influence from Heinlein were pretty distracting. It took about 100 pages of it for me to get over that and actually let myself be carried away by the story.
It was well worth it. Steve, if you ever get online and read this, you tell a very good tale. True, reading it makes me want to spend more time debating about sociology, politics, and the place of religion in society, but that's actually a GOOD thing and we should spend more time doing that anyway.
For the rest of you -
pick up the book. It's a fun read, and it works on multiple levels.
