I'm at work today. And I'll admit I'm not the most motivated worker. I like quiet days where I can sit at my desk and get homework done (at least during these busy days). So I'm not entirely happy when I have an orientation. But I do it (and with enthusiasm) because it is what my job entails.
So this lady comes in (late for her appointment). She fills out the getting to know you. I read her biggest exercise obstacles, and motivating factors, and her obstacle is that she has no discipline (no motivation). That's the hardest one to bat away. In fact, I was told by a corporate trainer that you can't. We can address their fears about money (especially when we have the 3 month special) and time (it's 30 minutes or crying out loud!) So I gear myself up to enthusiastic and really sell this place (cause to be honest I do like it here and it's a great way to work out) but then she says "Oh, should I go get my running shoes?" She didn't even bring in her running shoes???!!!! Hello!!! It's an orientation. I'm going to work you out on the machines! So I should have known this was going to not work out, but not to the point that it did!
The next step in an orientation is to explain how the cicuit works and why it works, etc. Then I go through each machine showing her proper form and getting her to try it. Then we move on to a full workout (this is why orientations are an hour and not just 30 minutes like a member's workout)
We got through about half the machines when she says "You know what, I don't think this is the level of fitness that I'm looking for" We didn't even finish all the machines or do an actual workout. We were just learning the machines and doing like 4 or 5 reps on them. AND to top it all off I remember distinctly on the 1st machine her saying "Woah, this is hard, I didn't realize how out of shape I was" So Which one is it??? I tried to get her into it, but you can't force someone to do something they don't want to. (I'm sure the owner, my boss, would have been more in her face, saying things like "Well why don't we just finish the whole thing and then you can make up your mind." But I'm not as driven to thrive at sales as my boss)
I'm just bitter I think because I like chugged my tea (which never seems to sit well when I do that) because this lady showed up for her orientation and then after 20 minutes decided to quit! ARGHHH!! LOL
