Art was in an accident while driving his motorcycle yesterday. He was hit by a Jeep while trying to make a left turn. He is okay, no broken bones, and his helmet only has a couple of scratches on the face plate and hinge. He does have lots of soft tissue damage and road rash/bruises. He's moving VERY slowly and VERY stiffly. According to him, the parts that hurt the worst are his right hip (hit jeep) and left shoulder (hit pavement).
They took him by ambulance to Kennestone hospital, where he had CT scans and x-rays done. Admitted around 8pm, discharged around 3am. That's a total of 7 hours in the er....or 7 plus hours without a cigarette. Luckily, we had some very good friends that kept both of us distracted, and a really good nurse who seemed to enjoy us being silly and was silly a bit with us.
Extra special thanks to
arirobin. She was the first person I called when I found out, drove me to the hospital, and stayed with us the entire time, including today so that I could do some running around. If she hadn't been there, I don't know what I would have done. There are not enough thank you's in the world to cover how much I love and appreciate you, babe! Even though they aren't on LJ, special thanks also to E&J, Art's best friend and his wife. He's an Army medic and in med school; she's a nurse. They were behind Art when the accident happened and were with him the entire time. Ed's antics in the er kept us all in stitches and made the time much easier to handle. E's been helping make sure Art's injuries are cleaned, iced, and healing. (And yes, mama, I will call next time, I promise!)
Tomorrow we will be going to Cobb PD to pick up Art's license, insurance card, and a copy of the report. We should also get a call from the insurance adjuster so I can give them the hospital paperwork and the police report. Art may have to see an orthopedist (hospital called to say radiologist took another look and may have seen a fracture on the bottom of his pelvis). Then once his back home and settled into the recliner, I'll do some more running around. The next few days will be interesting as I go back to work. Hopefully since tomorrow is the 2nd day afterwards, some of the swelling and pain will start going down.
