Avengers Endgame Thoughts (SPOILERS)
If you click on this cut, you will see spoilers for Avengers Endgame. Be warned.
First of all, I enjoyed the movie. It had issues, but after Ultron and Infinity War, I was expecting much worse.
1. I loved that they showed how each of the original 6 dealt with the trauma of the snap.
Tony devoted his life to building his family instead of his tech.
Steve abandoned his own life in pursuit of taking up Sam's life.
Clint went off the deep end and started killing bad guys.
Nat buried herself in her work.
Bruce literally became one with himself.
And Thor... I do not like that they played his weight gain for cheap laughs, but if you consider how his character did not use weight as a handicap, it becomes actually reasonable. Thor's entire arc has beenabout being worthy. After IW, HE no longer felt worthy. Thor is the epitome of white male privilege/entitlement from the very beginning. He lost EVERYTHING. So his response after realizing it was all gone forever and there was no hope was to shut himself away and lose himself in frivolity. The scene on Asgard with him and Frigga was well done, but that moment he called Mjolnir and the look on his face when it came to him - almost broken with joy that he is still worthy after not stopping Thanos in IW -- spoke volumes to me.
2. I enjoyed the riffs on time travel and I think they did a decent job of explaining it without getting too overly technical.
3. Sebastian Stan the actor exists in the Avengers universe, which must have really fucked Steve up the first time he saw a Seb Stan movie. Unless they let the WS out to film movies...
4. I am currently writing a little ficlet in which Steve returns the Aether to Asgard.
5. Jerry the mouse deserves all the credit for destroying Thanos.
6. I wept at the end but also... where's NAT's funeral?
7. Tony's daughter is a fucking cutie pie.
8. Steve returning the soul stone. A. HOW? B. Holy shit, no one warned him the Red Skull is the guardian. C. Will returning it get Nat back? A soul for a soul, after all.
9. The Tesseract was crushed to get the space stone, the staff hid the mind stone, and the Aether.... somehow took on stone form. How did they get them back in their original condition to return them?
10. Steve weilding Mjolnir and Thor being all I KNEW IT!!! with pride. <3 <3 <3
11. Me: Who is random teenaged boy at Tony's funeral? Me, ten minutes post movie after a google search: Harley!!! Seriously, they needed name tags.
12. The final battle could have been more impressive. It felt like an extended version of Keep Away rather than showcasing all the many characters' fighting abilities.
13. EVERY FIC IS NOW CANON as long as Steve can/could be in that time line.
