Greenlake's Blowing Up

Jun 21, 2007 14:22

It was a wonderful 70 degree Seattle day yesterday. The last day of Spring in fact. I didn't feel like driving all the way down to the coast to go surfing, but it was so nice out, I wanted to get in the water. I only live about 5 blocks from Greenlake, so I walked down there with my surfboard and paddled around a bit. On the way there a guy stopped me and said, "You know there's no waves here?" Uh, yeah, thanks for the heads up buddy. It was actually pretty nice. I just paddled out to the center of the lake and floated on my board. The crew team wasn't practicing, so the only other people around were the paddleboaters. After I got out I was lounging on the grass and a guy came up to me. "I've always thought about paddling around out there, but I've never done it. I think now I'm going to start." We then proceeded to talk about surfers in Seattle, Greenlake's water quality, and the breaks on the Oregon coast. I felt kind of dumb walking down Aurora Ave. with my surfboard, but now I feel like if I keep going out there, I'm not going to be the only one in the water.
