What We've Been Waiting to Hear! (One Way or Another)
Ausiello had some news on the "Will Tom sign for another season or not?" front:
Question: Any news as to whether Tom Welling has signed on for another season of Smallville? -- Scarlett
Ausiello: Yes, there's news, and it's good. Some would even call it, ahem, super. According to a well-placed Smallville insider, Welling is nearing a deal to return for a ninth season. I'm told they're just ironing out some minor deal points, such as should the Brinks Truck pull into the actor's driveway, or just unload on the street.

As much as I want Tom to make movies, I did get excited by the fact that it seems likely that he'll be on our TV's every week for another year. Maybe they will give Tom even more creative control, a producer credit, more directing time...who knows? Ausiello has been wrong before though so I'm trying to only cautiously get excited.
Ausiello's comment about the Brinks Truck bugged me a little bit. Back a few months ago, when TV Guide printed a bunch of actors' salaries, Tom was the lowest paid out of all of them so whatever raise he's getting, I think it's way overdue and well-deserved!
Then again, Ausiello thinks he's WAY more clever than he actually is (in my opinion).
