I just spent the last several hours reading the whole book. I'm sure I'll go back and re-read stuff. Overall, I liked it although there were definitely some WTF moments where I was wondering if the writers and producers are really watching the same show that we are...For now, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite Tom quotes:
In the foreword for the book, Laura Vandervoort talks about shooting her first scene with Tom: "It was the scene where I open the elevator doors in the Daily Planet. Oh my, he's tall, I thought when I met Tom."
Another Laura quote in the section about Fierce: "Tom's great," she enthuses. "He's a great actor, and he's really helped me with some of the dialogue. When I'm not sure how to play it, he's always there to support me and give me ideas, and on camera he's always teaching me, like an older brother teaching a younger sister."
In the Apocalypse section, the writers for the episode, Al Septien and Turi Meyer make quite a few comments singing Tom's praises. Septien talks about the difficulty of directing an episode when you're in every scene except two. Then he says, "Tom did a yeoman job of directing an episode with that kind of setup. It was very tough."
I don't know about anyone else, but I had to look up what the word yeoman meant. Here's the definition: performed or rendered in a loyal, valiant, useful, or workmanlike manner, esp. in situations that involve a great deal of effort or labor:
Nice!
A quote by Turi Meyer about being on the set and seeing Tom in action: "It was inspiring, being there and seeing him work.," he enthuses. "He really brought his A game, and he was just dead on in every take. He was great."
There's a whole long quote from Phil Morris where he's gushing about our wonderful Tom! Here's some excerpts: "It's wonderful that I get a chance to work with Tom," he enthuses. "He's humble. We speak about everything from life to martial arts- the works, and I find that to be a very refreshing place to be, [especially] with somebody you're working that intensely with."
PM also notes that Tom comes to him with comic book questions. "Tom's not a huge fan of comics- he's not not a fan; he's just not a big fan of them," notes Morris.
Another quote, "We talk about acting, we talk about martial arts- I've been taking kung fu for twenty years. He's really interested in that kind of combative training. It's great to just talk to him as a regular guy, and I think it lends to our relationship on-screen. That's what I see in it, and I think that's what the audience sees as well."
One more from Phil: "I think Clark was so well cast," Morris adds. "They found a very wholesome guy with a very winning, very fresh kind of personality, and he has taken this character and done incredible work with him. I'm proud to call Tom Welling a friend of mine. I look forward to the next time I work with him."
Aww..it sounds like Phil has a bit of a man-crush on our Tommy. Who can blame him though? :-)
