I don't know if anyone knows (or cares), but my favorite band is R.E.M. They recently announced that they were breaking up/dis-banding. There was no drama or falling out, they're just done.
I fell in love with R.E.M. in 7th grade. I think I might have first discovered them through watching Beverly Hills 90210. 90210 actually played cool/alternative music when it first started.
The first album of theirs that I owned was the cassette tape of Out of Time. Buying music was always a big deal for me, and I was afraid that I was going to buy the tape and not like the whole thing. In 7th grade I went on a 3 day class trip to the mountains (I was living in Knoxville, TN at the time) where I had a horrible, miserable time. When my mom picked me up from the trip, she had Out of Time waiting for me as a present. :-)
I played that tape over and over so much, I actually wore it out. By the time I wore it out, I had gotten a CD player. I think Out of Time is the only album that I have both the cassette and CD version of.
I would always listen to the whole album all the way through and I felt like every song spoke to me. Do you have any albums that you used to listen to all the way through? Or any that you still do that for?
I've seen R.E.M. in concert twice. My fingers are crossed for a reunion tour...
