Now that I've had a couple days to digest everything and relax a bit, I can talk a bit about how the MBMS Winter Concert went! Do I think it was SO GOOD, or NO GOOD?
It was SOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!
I ran the entire show ALL BY MYSELF. My cooperating teacher didn't show his face to me until after the show. I had no idea where he was (I even cracked a joke about it at the beginning of the concert) the entire time. I was a little put off having no idea where he was (the damn bastard did that on purpose) but the concert still went off without a hitch! All the ensembles sounded wonderful! The choirs, they were all watching me like they were supposed to, and the bands got their stuff organized w/o me, and everyone was FANTAAAAAASTIC! I didn't talk a lot, each transition between ensembles was seamless, and just... yeah! GREAT SUCCESS! I had no help from Aaron at all... it just... happened! Just me and all the kids, all by ourselves. :)
I got a lot of compliments from parents on a job well done (even the next day at The Trumpeter, a parent of one of the band students walked up to me to congratulate me... felt so awesome). Aaron is proud too. That ass hole... he came waltzin' into the music room and the only thing I said to him was "Fuck you, you dick." (there were NO kids in the room when I said that) LOL. I wasn't really pissed at him, just mildly annoyed. I get why he did it though, because I really do have something to be proud of. He wasn't around to be my crutch. I'M SO AWESOOOOME!
Speaking of being awesome, I got sooo much stuff-candy, cookies, cupcakes, cards (with my name mispelled 5 different ways :D) from students for the holidays. Most cards said that they'd miss me and have a Merry Christmas (I don't think they understood what "I'm here `til the end of the semester, which is at the end of January" meant.) I have one card though from my jazz pianist that was the sweetest damn thing I have ever received. She got me a set of tealight holders (now I have to go to Bed, Bath & Beyond to get some tealights... damn it ha~!), candy and the BIGGEST HUG ever. This girl is the sweetest girl on the planet; she was the first student to give me my first "Hi Miss Kaal!" in the hall, and was also my first hug from a student, and the first to tell me I was one of her favorite teachers. That feels so freakin' awesome. Half the time I was teaching I felt I was always too mean, or too hard on the kids, or I was just bumbling around clueless. It makes me feel so wonderful that in the end most of the kids don't care, as long as you are yourself and love them anyhow. Man, all 200 of those music kids at MBMS are the best kids in the world (even the ones I want to punch in the face), and I really couldn't have asked for a better internship placement. :) Aaron bought me coffee to celebrate. So awesome. That guy is such a dweeb but he's the best middle school music teacher I have ever met.
I'm so lucky!
I don't know what I'm going to do with myself come February. I wonder how teachers deal with moving on year after year?
GOD I AM GOING TO GET SO FAT I HAVE SO MANY SWEEEEEEEEEETS. >_
