Thank you to everyone who responded to my last entry! Wow, so many great Aicoholics... In case you all are still worried, I am doing even better than before. I still can't feel those two fingers, among other things, but the recovery is supposed to take months. I guess I am just impatient, ha ha!
...And, Claude, I was totally going to tell you that I was going to Paris, but for some reason, never got around to it! :( Meeting you and having you show me around would have been a lot more fun! Darn it all... *sigh*
Anyway, I promised (?) fangirliness, and I am here to deliver! ...Mostly because I am in a fangirly mood right now, lol.
Let's see... I have been spending a lot of my recovery time playing video games. Which is not at all a bad thing. XD Actually, let me rephrase that. Though I have been playing one by myself, I have been joyfully watching Dark Scrivener play through three different video games.
While I have had Kingdom Hearts since high school, the farthest I ever got was Wonderland... ha ha ha. *epic fail* It could be because I am not the biggest fan of Disney's iconic characters - Mickey, Goofy, Donald, etc. - or it could be because Sora's huge shoes really threw me off (lol), but I didn't get very far. (Actually, it was probably because I was a noob player at the time.) Still, I felt bad about that, seeing as how I had the game and all, and it had pretty good graphics...
Anyway, when DS found out that I had Kingdom Hearts but hadn't played through it, she basically stole the PS2 controller out of my hand and started a new game! I was fine with that. After all, I didn't really want to go through the game by myself, but I did want to know the story - the plot - Kingdom Hearts being so famous and all. And DS just wanted to get to the battle with Sephiroth... She is a REALLY big Sephiroth fan, despite the fact that she hasn't played any, or at least a lot, of Final Fantasy.
So, she is playing through Kingdom Hearts at a lightning pace (she has played it many times before, so she knows it well) while I enjoy watching it all. ^_^ We are in Atlantica now, so I think we are doing pretty good...
However, we took a break from Kingdom Hearts so that she could play through my GameCube version of Ocarina of Time. Yes, I have the special game version that comes with Zelda I, Zelda II, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask... and, no, I have not played through any of them before. -_- *I repeat, epic fail* ...And I will never play through MM because that moon is just too freaking scary!
And because DS is an even bigger fan of Link, and a die-hard OoT player, she stole my GameCube controller away even faster than the PS2 one! Ha ha.
We had actually started a game last fall, but had forgotten about it over my long absence in London, so we continued that game, left off right after Link wakes up as an adult (...and now this is reminding me of DC OVA 9... ha ha ha). Anyway, she knows OoT better than anything in the world, having played it so many times before, so we ended up playing through the rest of it in (probably) record time. I was really sad at the end, though, but glad to have been able to watch one of the best games of all time. Ah, Link... *fangirl squeal*
Now that we... well, she... had played through her "Favourite Game EVER", I was just itching to have her experience MY "Favourite Game EVER"...
So we got the PS2 out again and started a new game of Okami...
BEST GAME EVER MADE!
*clears throat*
Well, I thought we had played through OoT fast... the day we started Okami, we played over 8 1/2 hours... Yippie! Video game high... ha ha.
And I freaking fell in love with Issun all over again...
Did I ever mention that I've cosplayed Issun before? Best cosplay I've ever done. ...And one of the very few... *sadness*
Yeah, anyway, we only started a few days ago, and we are already at the whole Taka Pass / Gale Shrine section. Yeah, wow. Anyway, just as DS knows OoT like the back of her hand, I know Okami completely by heart, so it has been very, very hard trying to not tell DS what to do next in the game. Because I am actually letting her play through it, rather than playing through it myself with her watching. And since Okami has very similar gameplay to Zelda, she is rather fanatic about figuring out all of the puzzles herself.
Yay, Okami! ...Good Lord, I am going to end up crying at the end again, aren't I? ...Darn it, I am such a Waka-hater (sorry, Waka fans), and I (strangely?) ship Ammy+Issun, so... yeah...
So, DS and I have been playing through Kingdom Hearts, Ocarina of Time, and Okami... we will probably pick Kingdom Hearts up again after Okami is through...
Oh, yeah, and that one game I am actually playing by myself? Twilight Princess. :D
DS's Link will forever be the little faux-Kokiri boy with an overtalkative fairy. My Link will always be the teenage ranch hand from Ordon.
AND I FREAKING LOVE MIDNA! She totally reminds me of Haibara, in many strange ways... And, yes, I ship Link+Midna. Because.
I was, unfortunately, stuck in Lakebed Temple for months (yes, part of that time I was in London, but still...), but I finally got out to my great relief, only to find out that I had fallen in love with Link's Zora Tunic... hee hee.
And, since my mom got me Twilight Princess for the Wii, I had a hysterical time the other day watching the sun rise in the WEST over the Gerudo Desert.
Sadly, I was spoiled about the ending of this lovely game a long, long time ago, which takes some of the fun out of it. Still, I can't wait to see how events will unfold for myself. DS can't watch me play, though, because she has not yet had the opportunity to play TP, and she has done a fair job of keeping herself mostly unspoiled.
I can't wait for the next Zelda console game, though, because now that I know all about Link and stuff, I can just buy the game and play if before I have the chance to have the plotline spoiled. Because as much as I just love playing games, it is still similar to books, movies, etc. for me - I am in it for the story! DS and I are both excited about the recent news on the next Wii game. And we are both convinced that that woman-fairy-sprite thing in the picture is actually the Master Sword... somehow.
Good Lord, this has been a lot of talk about video games! Uh... in other fangirly news...
I haven't been watching much anime lately, besides Detective Conan. But that is fairly typical. Someday, DS will get to show me the rest of Trigun, and I have a great desire to watch Howl's Moving Castle for the billionth time, and we both just watched Advent Children again... Which reminds me... after watching it, DS and I were in GameStop, and I bought Dirge of Cerberus to play since I have never played any Final Fantasy, and Vincent Valentine sort of reminds me of a younger, more emo Alucard (from Hellsing)... But then I haven't really played it yet, because DS started playing it while she babysat my dogs and my family's house while I was in surgery. -_-
Oh, yeah. No more about video games.
This summer, I've read DS's copies of the Old Kingdom trilogy, by her favourite author, Garth Nix. They were really good! I totally want a bell bandolier... and the Disreputable Dog. (DS can keep Mogget.) And I finally put my audiobook of Mariel of Redwall (my favourite of Brian Jacques' Redwall series) on my iPod and listened to it all. It was great to hear Jacques narrate the story, but man, they could have picked a better voice actress for the main character! Boy, though, that story brought back childhood memories.
So, overall, while I am having a fine time fangirling Link and Issun, my heart is still with Detective Conan. Which is a great feeling, since a lot of exciting things seem to be coming up, including File 700, which will feature the Black Organization! DS will be happy about that, since she has recently become a rather big fan of Gin... probably because he looks so much like Sephiroth. -_-
Since I am on a DC high, I would actually like to be working on 40 Nights ... but, for some reason, the writing is even harder than it used to be! And, darn it all, I want to write while I have this time off!
If anyone is still reading by this point, could you give me some advice? What do you do to stop procrastination? Especially when it comes to writing? I am thinking about making a schedule and trying to stick to it... somehow. Hmm... in fact, I should probably go try to write some more right now... I think I'll give it a try... if I can stop myself from playing Twilight Princess instead...
EDIT: When DS and I were playing Okami for 8 1/2 hours the other day, my parents were watching The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in the next room. Suddenly, I overheard a melody from the movie's soundtrack, recogized it, and shouted out "BOLERO OF FIRE!"
It scared DS half to death, but she agreed with me, that it sounded just like that Ocarina song! How very exciting! I think I was mostly excited, though, because I actually correctly named one of OoT's songs. When we were playing the game, the only two I could ever play were "Zelda's Lullaby" (because playing the notes creates the Triforce symbol) and "Epona's Song" (because Wolf!Link howls that one in TP).
