Yesterday, I spent pretty much the whole day in bed. And not for fun reasons. I really can't remember the last time a migraine has so thoroughly laid me up. I had to take three whole Magic Migraine-Go-Away pills before it would even let me get out of bed . . . much less eat or sit at a computer screen. So all the things I wanted to do yesterday on my 'puter to prep for my classes, needless to say, didn't get done.
But my LJ friends can help me with one of them. I need a decent hosting service. I already own the domain, now I need a space to put stuff . . . eventually, space to put my site. I'm still reworking the design in my head, it'll be awhile before I bother to crack open Dreamweaver and do it.
I need a decent amount of space, decent bandwith, email muckety-muck included, maybe message boards, and I'd prefer to pay less than $100 per year. I really love Yahoo these days, I'm toying with them, but I'm curious if any of you know/use other hosts. I had a great time with a Mom & Pop ISP for many many years: I found it a lot simpler to deal with. Alas, it was bought out.
I know, I know, some of you are waiting patiently for a 90's party writeup and such stories. I honestly don't know if I'll bother: parties are so hard to encapsulate in words. It was a party. I saw friends. I danced to music that my eMac happily played for me. I had a lot of fun, except with that one killjoy who Martha brought. There was a 90's trivia contest, which Soxboi won the hell out of. Glill and Coyote did Star Trek-geeking in the kitchen for hours and hours. I saw parts of an episode of My So-Called Life, which I haven't seen since the 90's. The Rainbow Serpent was well-started. At one point, I saw six or seven people working on it at once. You'll see this Serpent if you visit me and Coyote. Hopefully, we'll have space to display it in our new place, too.
Our landlords have given us a four-month notice. It isn't an eviction, per se. They want to take over the whole house, and they told us so when they bought it. As if I didn't have enough to do in the next four months. I'm hoping we'll be able to secure our new place by June 1 and spend that month repainting, fixing stuff, and slowly moving in. Good thing I have a job! Our tax return, if we get one, is fully going towards that first/last/security deposit thang.
I'm a little nervous, just because we did apartment-hunt before. If you have a pet, and it isn't a cat or dog, the pickings are pretty slim. Luckily, I did identify the parts of town that are cheapish. We'll try to move somewhere else in Elmwood, or Edgewood. It's very important to me to be near Roger Williams Park . . . look on any map of the Providence area to see why. It's gigantic, it's gorgeous, and it's been my haunt for most of my life. Plus, I'm a member of the zoo. If I finish what I want to do this week, I really want to squeeze in another zoo visit. More important, though, is to start working the hell out. I think I'll go over to a nearby playground and do some upper-body stuff. I have to have arm & shoulder muscles that are ready for those heavy lights and equipment bags!
