Besides prepping for the party Saturday, looking for gainful employment, having amusing threesomes, and picking my nose, there's a few decent reasons why I haven't been all that chatty on LJ lately

I really wouldn't mind Pearl Jam, their music and lyrics are pretty good . . . my beef is that you could replace Eddie Vedder with a dying alley cat and the vocals would sound the same. There are some singers (for me: Sarah MacLachlan, Sarah Brightman, and a few others) whose voices lift you up, make you feel lighter than air. And there are some singers (for me: Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, the lead singer of System of a Down, and a few others) whose voices rub your fur the wrong way, make you feel like you're listening to nails on a chalkboard.
Now, I'm open-minded enough to understand that everyone has individual tastes, and that the very things that make Eddie Vedder completely unpalatable to me are the same things that other people find highly appealing about his voice. "He's so emotional!" my friends tell me. And they also tell me that my Sarahs sound like glass-shattering opera singers.
So, everyone's an individual, I don't think you're a lesser person for loving Pearl Jam, but I can't stand the core of their sound. There are other bands that you love and I've only barely heard of, I'd be happy to give some of them a try. But I've already had more than I can take of Pearl Jam, sorry! :)
Hmmmm! I respect your opinion. Cant say I am a fan of Sarah MacLachan, but I will not deny she has a great voice. But I like something with more grit. Like a PJ Harvey. I actually felt the same way about Eddie Vedder at first. It was the Pearl Jam cover version of the Victoria Williams song "Crazy Mary" that changed my mind about Pearl Jam. Eddie sang with restraint and there are many examples where he can sing with restraint and get across emotion such as the song "Nothingman". For me it has not whether the singer has a great voice. Shit Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash and Tom Waits will never be mistaken for Pavorotti. But those people I mentioned have character. It is the reason why I love low-fidelty and bootleg live recordings because I love the imperfection of it. Anyway see you tomorrow! *hugs*
