My sensitive-to-criticism mode comes on at about the same time as my writing mode. Small wonder. I'm toying with disallowing comments on the entry I'm working on, but I think my disclaimer makes it clear that I'm not looking for constructive criticism. I think I'd bring it to the writer's circle at AS220 if I wanted that.
(Abstracted from what I have heard from Those Who Know:)
Writers' groups suck at criticism. They'll all try too hard to be nice, and you won't find out what's wrong until your editor sits you down for The Talk. Post to Usenet (e.g., rec.arts.sf.written for SF, rec.arts.prose(?) for other) and get actual honest responses.
*nod* Some of my erotica is very lite on the down and dirty details, some looks like a chapbook excerpt. But I'll look there when I'm ready for criticism. I'm having a wonderful time with this one, even if it is coming more slowly. It feels so good to write fiction! I am not going to think back to the last time I finished a story. It'd depress me. But this one's pretty quick, I ought to have it finished before Friday.
