Ugh. It's just a bit past 7am and I'm already dragging. This day will surely be fun. Hopefully I'll only manage to cut myself a few times. Luckily I can't start work until at least one cow orker appears, so no possibility of bleeding out with noone but Lemon Drop to watch me die.
Yes, I brought one of the first ponies I ever owned with me to work. She's sitting above my monitor in western tack, reminding me to throw my shoulders against my traces and shoulder on.
Yes, I have a computer now. Last Thursday, they gave me a computer and my own little workspace . . . before I had shared a table with two other grrls. Which was lively but not all that conducive to concentration and serious effort.
I work better alone, so I'm happy as all hell.
The computer means that I'm actually doing something much closer to what the job description was when I was hired: lots of ordering, some comping. This thrills me to no end. Comping means sitting in one place a lot, slicing with Xacto knives, gluing with hot glue guns. Ordering means moving around, checking the printers, fixing fonts, fixing links, and generally feeling more like a smartypants. Plus, my left hand no longer feels like it's turning into a gnarled old lady's talon by the end of the day.
I know I have much to tell about what it's like to work in a toy company, as well as giving the tales of my weekend, but that will have to wait. Somebody else has come in, so I can start.
