Webcomic. Photos of ponies. I could draw the backgrounds in the vain hope that it might improve such, or I could cheat and use other photos ( Read more... )

Is this just you randomly deciding that you want to do a webcomic for a the fun of it? (The MIT Lecture Series Committee has been known to get webcomic authors to be speakers; apparently it doesn't take very much to bribe them to come to MIT, which suggests webcomic author isn't a very lucrative job.)

Anyway, if you're doing it without the demands of some employer, there's no reason to feel constrained to any particular story format. I think traditional comics are designed to work well with the publication schedule and average readership of typical newspapers, but with a webcomic, there's no reason why you'd have to have those goals. There's no reason why you couldn't release a 20 panel strip once a month if that's the format that would suit you best.

(On the other hand, if you want to do this, your absoulte number one goal should perhaps be to define the scope of the project to make it easy enough that you end up frequently actually finish making something that you can publish. You can always gradually refine your technique a bit as time goes on, etc.)

True, true. Well, I'm more interested in doing animation, but I have a decent story arc for this. And it would give me more time to play with my ponies.

I can imagine! I don't think I'd ever have the patience for stop motion animation. I take my hat off to those that do.

You could consider devoting some time to animation and some to the comic.

On the other hand, drawing the comic will probably also provide practice that could translate easily to some animation styles.
