I remember just a week or so ago, mentioning to Coyote that doctorellisdee would come visit us in Providence around when I'll get back to see all the cool people in Albany. Which is to say, some time in ( Read more... )

If you tell me what your budget is I can walk you through ordering stuff and build him a new one. I'll be up in Prov this weekend, can maybe meet up then. Am finally exploring alternates to making the drive down to Philly.

if I'm on AIM tonight remind me to go scrounge in the box of random compy pieces in my garage. I'm not entirely sure what all I ended up with on this coast, had most of the spare bits from when I upgraded mine earlier this year, but yeah, moves bite like that.

Wow, mucho gracias to both of you.

Talk directly to my husband, it's his computer. All I need is for it to be able to deal with Airport. Hmmm, I better make sure that they make Airport cards for PCs before I order this.

Maybe it might be better to set up my old iMac and throw Virtual PC on it.

All we need is a 'puter that can handle an Airport card and can play his old-ass games.

So, an 802.11b card for a PC that will interoperate with your airport stuff is not going to simultaneously call itself an airport card and work with a PC.

Unless the computer in question is so unexpandable as to lack any open PCI slot, I don't know of any reason why you shouldn't be able to just spend some random amount of money (probably less than $100) for a PCI 802.11b card and install it. Assuming the only problem it has is that it doesn't have wireless networking.

It must be wireless, because of the stoopid configuration of the apartment. Well, my eMac needs to be wireless, the PeeeCeee could be plugged into it, I guess. Supposedly the wireless thing works through walls, which is just what we need.

Oh, you just need it to have a wireless networking card? It doesn't have to be the Airport thing, they make wireless LAN Cards for PC's too. That's an easy $60 item to order.
