Written for day 10 of the
31_days challenge. The prompt was: To change your life, change your mind.
Marshall Teller trudged up the narrow wooden stairs that lead to the Secret Spot and threw himself into his writing chair with a sigh. He opened the Evidence Locker, removed his notebook, and began to write.
"To whom it may concern..."
He stopped. Who exactly was he writing this for? His parents, who thought his investigations into the centre of weirdness for the entire planet was just a reaction to finding himself transplanted from the thriving crimeopolis that was New Jersey to a small isolated farming community in the agricultural heart of the nation? Police and politicians and teachers, who held all the power, who knew everything he did and probably more, and didn't care? The kids at school, who he'd saved from a life of drab, grey, glasses-clad zombification, and who, if they noticed him at all, only did so to comment on how weird that new kid was, and return to whatever it was they were doing?
He flipped back through previous entries, chewing the end of his biro thoughtfully, then turned to a fresh page and tried a new approach.
