GARY J. KASPAREK WINTERPORT - Gary James Kasparek, 60, passed away peacefully Sept. 23, 2008, at his home. Gary was born Oct. 30, 1947, in Greens-burg, Pa., to William F. and Merinda (Saltzman) Kasparek. Gary grew up and attended schools in Greensburg, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army as a journalist during the Vietnam War. Gary graduated from the University of Maine in 1976 with a degree in communications. He was well known in the local TV community and worked several years for Channel 7 News as their production manager. He then continued his career by teaching his love for communications at New England School of Communications. Gary enjoyed listening to blues and jazz music, watching football with friends and spending time with family. Gary is survived by his mother, Merinda (Saltzman) Kasparek Pierce of Greens-burg, Pa.; two brothers, Dale Kasparek and wife, Cecilia, of Greensburg, Pa., and Richard Kasparek and wife, Bonnie, of Hamilton, Ohio; two nieces, Rebecca D'Angelo and husband, Mark, of Harrison City, Pa., and Liese Vito and husband, Ken, of Concord, Ohio; one nephew, David Kasparek and wife, Rebecca, of Harrisburg, Pa.; several great-nieces and great-nephews; one sister-in-law, Patricia MacDonald; three brothers-in-law, Jay, John and Michael MacDonald; special friends whom he will be greatly missed by, Leah Maddocks, Dutch, Lisa and Ivy, David Maclaughlin, Rodney Verrill, Steve Vachon, as well as several other close friends to numerous to mention. Gary was predeceased by his father; and his loving wife, Diane M. (MacDonald) Kasparek in 1999. Family and friends are invited to visit 5-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. Interment beside his wife, with military honors,will be held immediately after the funeral service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport. Family and friends are invited to share in light refreshments and a continued time of remembrance at Ivy and Randy Higgins home, 846 North Main St., Winterport.
