“Events are only inevitable after they happen, Jonghyun-ah.”
The lead singer turned his head towards the direction of the almighty one of the group, raising his left eyebrow deep into his hairline. He was just reading the newspaper and commented on a paparazzi article on another dating rumor that has been divulged from the entertainment companies. He put down the newspaper in his hand and turned his body fully, hugging a knee and letting the other dangle off the chair, and faced the younger, which was seated in the living room and eyes fixed on the television screen as he spoke those words.
“Is that so?” He mused; his eyebrow still had no sign of returning to its original spot yet. “So you made that inevitable.”
The younger froze in his spot for a split second, but immediately returned to being normal again. He knew what Jonghyun was talking about.
“I don’t really like it. What do you mean by calling me Jonghyun-ah? We are not friends; you can’t speak to me in casual language so call me Jonghyun hyung. And if we are friends and I don’t care about honorifics, you call me Jjong.”
Jonghyun had now walked up to the coffee table in front of Key and leaned inwards as he spoke the dangerously possessive words. He was hotter than before, like that was even possible, and every word shook the determination and strength of Key’s stare back at Jonghyun.
“I don’t really like it. Why did you not speak to me on the phone just now? Why did you let the rest talk to me? What, are we fighting now?” Jonghyun closed in and stopped when he could not go further without toppling over, but still a sufficient distance to make Key feel inadequate.
“Do we always have to talk on the phone? Like really? Can’t others call you for once? I see you everyday in the dorm and isn’t that enough?” The younger seethed, trying his very best to keep his composure and front as a scary and intimidating iguana.
“No, I just thought you would miss me. And you let that happen, Kim Kibum. You let yourself not volunteer to call me when needed and I’m not sure if this is the best thing to do, really.”
Kibum stared back angrily at the possessive attitude that Jonghyun was showing. It wasn’t like he was his possession. It wasn’t like he needed to be told what to do. And damn it he was supposed to be that one person that understood him well enough to know that he space out a lot during these fan meets. But his gaze soon softens because it is impossible to look into Jonghyun’s eyes for more than 20 seconds without melting into his arms.
That’s right; Kibum has a crush on his fellow band mate, brother and best friend. And it is impossible to just watch him like this. It isn’t possible for even Almighty Key.
“Good night,” Kibum announced, standing up from his seat, subtly moving away from Jonghyun overly close face.
“Come here,” Jonghyun’s voice was laced with a sense of command, but that didn’t stop Kibum from moving forward into his room.
“I said come here,” Jonghyun’s fingers wrapped themselves around Kibum’s wrist and tugged firmly, causing Kibum to fall backwards into his arms. Oh great, he thought, so much for trying to get away.
“You let that happen. And why, may I know?” Jonghyun spoke purposely in polite language and a smirk crept up his lips as congratulation to himself for such a response that would sweep Kibum off his feet.
Kibum stared straight back into his eyes, this time with a tinge of shine in them that should not be present. He recalled the heartbreaking event nearly 4 months ago, and his heart shattered even more.
“You let that happen, too, Jonghyun hyung,” Kibum’s words were cold, yet full of warmth from his brimming tears. “You let the same thing happen too.”
Jonghyun’s eyes fluttered out of the locked gaze, his grip lessening a little, ready to let Kibum go. Kibum closed his eyes at the lack of contact, absent-mindedly letting liquid hurt fall from his eyes. The two stayed in position for sometime before Jonghyun realized what he was doing.
He wasn’t stupid; he knew the younger’s affections for him. Although he tried to make it as subtle as possible, and how he tried to convince himself that he was thinking too much about this forbidden crush. But now, he can’t ignore it anymore, because it was so evident and ignoring it would hurt them both, together with their relationship. Moreover, he…
“Jjong…hyun hyung…” Kibum accidentally let the nickname slip out of his mouth, and tried pathetically to cover up his mistake. Jonghyun now held him tightly in his embrace, pushing the younger’s head into his shoulder.
“That was 4 months ago, Kibum-ah,” he whispered. “I promise everything will change.”
Kibum’s tears ran like a broken tap as he felt Jonghyun’s grip tighten around him, comforting and heart-breaking all at the same time. He buried his head deeper into Jonghyun’s shoulder blade, accidentally inhaling his scent more than he wanted to. He trembled, and that led to Jonghyun tightening his grip, and the whole evil cycle starts all over again.
“How can it possibly change, hyung.” His suppressed voice sounded really pathetic, and he hated himself for that. Jonghyun hated that too, how Kibum was acting to be strong, and how Kibum hated himself.
“It can, because I’ve already broken up with her,” Jonghyun pulled the younger out of his embrace, greeted with his extremely shocked expression.
“Is this why you’re like this these few days? Extremely PMS-y and yet being the usual romantic perverted idiot you are in the past?”
Jonghyun frowned at his words and pinched the rapper’s pale cheeks. He then slapped the lead singer’s hand away and rubbed his cheek, pouting.
“You haven’t answered my question.”
Jonghyun looked up from his chuckle and gave a light smile. “I love skinship, Kibum-ah. And yes, it probably is. But don’t get me wrong - I initiated it. I’m not regretful or wanting her back.”
“But why?”
Jonghyun looked into the younger’s feline eyes, trying hard to steady his gaze and put his words together. It all mounted to four words.
“Because I love you.”
He captured the diva’s lips during his surprise and it felt amazing. They tell them it’s wrong, but he had never felt more right before. He took his breath away, just like how he does every day.
“You let that happen,” Jonghyun smirked when their lips finally parted for a gasp of air. The diva’s eyes widened a little before curving his lips the same way the elder did.
“Look who’s talking.”
“Yeah, events are only inevitable after they happen.”
“And you let it happen.”
“Events like, being my boyfriend forever?”
“You wish,” the diva turned his back and walked to his room as previously planned, unable to hide the gleeful grin on his face that he doubt he can wash away with his new face scrub.
