Faeries, Masquerades, and Glasses, oh my!

Went to Faerie Con yesterday at the Convention Center in Philly. I had been looking forward to it for weeks since I first heard of it. I love fantasy art and illustration, and two of my favorite artists, Kinuko Craft and Josephine Wall were there. Also, Brian and Wendy Froud who do a whole bunch of fairy art and illustration were there. Brian Froud has done books about faeries, giants, goblins, and his work was featured in Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy book. He and his wife both worked extensively with Jim Henson on Labyrinth and the Dark Crystal designing costumes, puppetteering, and their son Toby was the baby stolen by the goblin king in Labyrinth. Brian Froud said that he designed David Bowie's costume for Labyrinth, and the British press called the pants "perv pants":) Wendy Froud worked on The Empire Strikes back, as well; she sculpted Yoda:) A very nice couple indeed. Brian Froud is the kind of cute cuddly British gentleman that you just want to squeeze him and pinch his cheeks:)
I sat in on a few panels. There was so much fantasy costumes, accessories, and art that I wished I had gone into engineering so I made more money and thus would have more to spend. I would have unloaded a truckload on artwork alone! So many talented painters, sculptors, jewelers, and craftspeople all in one place! And the guests' costumes were certainly something to see as well! The Masquerade was pretty cool, too. I had never been to the Trocadero before. Small, hot, not the prettiest place in the world, but fun nonetheless. There was this guitarist who I am certain is possessed when he plays, goes by Scott Huckabay. We also saw a German neo-medieval band called Qntal. They were great; I just wished they had started off with faster more danceable music instead of slower haunting numbers. But when they let it loose, boy did they ever! I had a great time:)
Autumnslight and her friends were kind enough to let me tag along with them for the day. We meandered about, looking at all the fantastic vendors. We had Malaysian food for dinner, which was fabulous and altogether new to me. I had pineapple rice and shrimp, served in a hollowed out pineapple. Fabu! And after dancing the night away at the Troc, I drove home. Got back all in one piece, sober and very tired but happy:)

Today I started back at Pearle. I had the Sunday shift all by myself. Which was fine with me, because I would have torn someone a new one. The place is a god-awful mess. Two months of files were stashed in a file drawer. Floor hasn't been swept in a month, nor have the bathrooms been cleaned. Pile of labwork taller than me, and customer issue trays scattered everywhere. Yep, nothing has changed. Ah, well. Time to start anew. Again:)
