The downside of this whole thing is the dishes.

Apparently all this Christmas cooking and baking I've been doing has flipped a switch in my head, because now it's like I need to cook or bake something every day. It's been sort of nice, actually. I definitely would not have had the energy to do this when I was working, so I guess I might as well take advantage of this, uh, lull.

So despite the fact that we had a hodge-podge of leftovers for dinner last night, so I didn't have to cook anything, and Lord knows I didn't really need to make MORE dessert, I made a bread pudding. I wanted something with brighter, lighter flavors than the usual bread pudding, so I used lemon and orange zest in the custard base, (made with eggnog, vanilla and almond extracts), and used a cup of dried cherries, and a half-cup each of dried apricots and golden raisins. This thing is buttery and sticky and very moist, and the flavor is quite unlike any bread pudding I've ever had before. I am restraining myself from eating more of it right now. Lawsy.

And I think tonight I will make my second attempt at homemade potatoes au gratin. And, I need to do something with some of this cauliflower that's languishing in my fridge. So, what's your go-to cauliflower recipe?
