Childhood fantasies

Since May 26, 1977, I have on many occasions strode boldly across a large open space, in front of cheering thousands, while the strains of John William's "Throne Room and End Title" played in the background.  That this happened upon a stage of my imagination is both true and unkind.

On June 26, 2010, it happened to me in real life.

To be sure, I, DS, and a thousand other Cub Scouts were marching around the infield at a Frederick Keys game.  I had somehow skipped the Defeat of the Reticulan Invasion, the Invention of the WonderWidget, the Humiliation of the Evil Genius, the Rescue of Millions, or any of the other tasks I had previously considered necessary precursors to this scene.

And to be honest, it would have been a different kind of triumph if I had done one or more of those things first.

But it was nonetheless AWESOME.

Plus, we won the game, the fireworks weren't at all bad, and how much more American can you get than camping in the outfield of a baseball stadium with the other Cub Scouts?
