Feathergolde Isles: Introduction

Jan 15, 2012 22:37

I started a BACC! Using the rules over at buildacity and after lots of townie-related hair-tearing, I finally got it started. So, here's the introduction post with the founding characters.

Esme Butterworth was a rich businessman's daughter who longed for a simpler world, free of corruption, greed and environmental disregard. People said that she was away with the fairies, that she was new to the world and stupid for trying to change a system which was unchangeable. So, she decided to leave. She put in an advertisement in the local paper seeking adventurous souls wishing to seek a better life for themselves and their descendants.

The first person to respond to the advert was Caolan Golde. Golde certainly would not be the most likely person to decide to take on an adventure. However, the red-haired, easily-burnt, pale, nature-fearing indoor person felt it was his only choice. As a Knowledge sim, he was always reading astronomy books and peering through his many telescopes, until one night, a mysterious woman appeared in his home, covered in strange markings and constantly exercising her curiously enthusiasm for all things worldly. She called herself Sybil and at first, Caolan tried to pass her off as his cousin from out of town. However, her constant prodding and questioning of his friends, her complete lack of physical similarities to him and her peculiar accent began to become very suspicious. So, he decided to leave, and take her away to a place where nobody would ask questions, where she could adapt to mundane life and live in an environment where she would not be hunted.

Next came Reuben Strauss. He had lived a lifestyle of wild parties and bulging contact books, but one day discovered that he wasn't so important anymore. He stopped being hired as a Professional Party Guest and people lost interest in his anecdotes which were fast running out. Realising that he could no longer support his party lifestyle with his quickly diminishing income, he decided to make a new life for himself.

Celandine O'Hara was a geographer studying at the local university. Her studies caused her to realise how terrible city life was, and how much better and healthier it would be to live in a place with no fumes or environmental destruction. Part of her just wanted to study the new landscape. She offered her knowledge and services to Esme, and took up the post of environmental adviser and documenter of the local landscape, flora and fauna.

The last adventurer to sign up to the project was Frey Almstedt. Frey was brought up by loving parents in a small home, expected to grow up, find a job, marry and lead a happy life. However, he felt restrained by these expectations placed upon him by doting parents. Instead, he decided to leave. On a whim, he saw Esme's advert and he decided to go and seek his fortunes, like in all the books he had read as a child. He is hoping to make a name for himself as a pioneer, and be remembered for years to come.

After sailing for days, they realised they were soon going to start running out of supplies, and decided to stop at the next island they found. In fact, they found two. After Celandine had confirmed that they were suitable places to live, the travellers landed and set to work starting their new home. They named their new residence the Feathergolde Isles, after their ambition to take wing and seek fortune.

I suppose all that's left to do now is begin!
