SoNo???

SoHo. -Ney York City
LoDo. -Denver
SoDo. -Seattle
...
SoNo? -Anchorage, kind of.
Monica and I went to see Harry Potter last weekend, which by the way was very good.  During the always entertaining slideshow before the movie we started seeing ads for high fashion shops saying they were in the "heart of SoNo".  Of course my curiosity perked at this new phrase.  In Denver, LoDo is short for "Lower Downtown" an area that was once rundown but within the last few years has been cleaned up and is the big nightclub/cool restaurant hangout for Denver.  SoHo in New York City (there's also one in London) means "South of Houston Street" it's in lower Manhattan.  SoDo -"South of the Kingdom District" located in Seattle is the largest industrial district in the Northwest.  Both new Seattle stadiums are located there.

And now to Anchorage's SoNo.  I shudder to even say it out loud... "South of Nordstrom"... I kid you not.  No, it's not some important landmark or some street separating a part of the city.  No, it's a store.  A yuppie store.  I will never-ever associate SoNo with Anchorage.
Again, Harry Potter=good.  SoNo=not good.

But "A-Rage" is still cool with me. ;-)
