Monica and I are well on the path to home ownership! We had been looking at houses for only a short time and quickly came to the realization that the market was rising and soon a place of our own would be too expensive, so we jumped on it and found this:
1429 Atkinson Dr. It's small but it's got a really good yard and the neighborhood is quite and looks very inviting. It's near the bike trails and Cheney Lake is right across the street. For me is about as close as you can get to Ft. Rich without living in the ghetto. We have already made and offer and agreed to repairs/signed the contract. We got a pretty good deal on it although there are a couple of things under the surface that need to be fixed. That will be nice for us and will give us something to work on. I bought a couple home repair books, etc and will be on my way to making decks, installing washing machines, and adding bathroom fans. Haha.
I'll have some pictures of the interior up soon. One thing I never imagined was how much of a pain it is filling out loan paperwork. They send you through hoops like crazy... "I see you have a $200 deposit from 2 months ago... tell us about that. Oh, a gift from your father? We'll need a gift receipt stating that" (that's an actual issue I'm dealing with) Ug! It's about as invasive as a rectal exam. Not that I've had one... but I could imagine. At least we have good credit and everyone is being nice... everyone but the sellers.
They took our first offer and agreed to fix most of the issues we had, but when we asked about meeting with them so we could pay our own money for additional upgrades on things they were already fixing, they got all snippy and said they didn't want to meet with us and anything we wanted to upgrade could be done ourselves. Damn! It's like we're being punished because THEY accepted the offer! Wow. But whatever, I've got my home repair books so they can kiss it.

Oh, so the joists can handle it... that's good. Um, what's a joist?
