So here it goes..

I've been pretty quiet about the entire incident in Blacksburg the entire time, and i was just sitting here, talking to Greg, and he said something that inspired me to break my silence.

I challenge you to not let this go away.

I have no problem admitting that i don't know anyone at Virginia Tech. I have friends that do, but for me to piggyback on their pain would be horrible. I can't say that i broke my stride yesterday, broke down crying, or anything of the sort.

What made me sad (and while this is written on a computer, know that it is one of the hardest things i've ever said) is that as hard as it is to say, i can guarentee that there are people right now, who the only reason they are even doing ANYTHING, even something as remote as putting up that banner on facebook, is because other people are. For the love of GOD, don't make this a fad. Now, i'm not coming down on anyone, i respect your right to grieve and show support in your own way, but i want your heart to be in the right place

Plain and simple, if you're really moved by a tragedy, do something so that another can be prevented. Don't just put a ribbon on or buy a t-shirt and pretend like you're doing your part.

I challenge you to take part in counseling a kid.
I challenge you to community outreach.

And more than anything, i challenge you to not let those educated young minds die in vain, so that we sit around and hear our peers say stuff that has some weight, and when something like this happens, the response isn't "I never trusted those goddamn asians anyway"

Yes, that's a real quote.

Finally, greg summed it up best.

"I think its all about how you react, do you give up and give in to racism and shit? or do you band together and if even for a moment, take 10 seconds and write a letter that might make somene who just lost their best friend smile."

If you want to be pissed at me, flame on...but just do SOMETHING.
