Here is a bit of a general update on the life of Ed
[Just before I started writing this Jack decided it was time to come out from under the radiator and curl up under my chin. But I need to pee! I don't have the heart to move him though. He has mud in his ear and burrs in his fur]
So I'm off on another year of Open University, my first course started this week. I'm doing Biology and Child Development. OU has a neat system which lets pick up a course you've dropped the previous year, and keep the grades you'd got so far. Last year, miserable and confused and overstressed, I quit two courses, one of which was Child Development, so I'm picking it up at the third assignment stage.
I'm not very enthused about University. I would like to be going to a university with classes and lectures, with a campus where I can read on the lawn in the summer, with a library where you can wander the stacks finding odd little books on obscure topics and wiggling them into your essay somehow, When I was 18 I wanted the full university experience - something between Dead Poets Society and Northern Lights. Now I'm here and it is what it is.
Getting a degree would make me feel part of the world again though, like I'd wandered out of the forest after ten years and found a real road. And studying is a very useful way to spend time when you are unable to work.
