Theatre

Simon Callow raised an interesting point - Why do you go to the theatre? Do you go cause you think it's good for you? Do you not go cause it's boring? What would make it more interesting? This is the question I have been asking myself, cause I much prefer cinema to theatre in general, but I have seen some great pieces of theatre that could not have happened anywhere but on a live stage. A version of The Tempest performed in the woods and Robert lePage’s 'Elsinore' are the two i can think of. They wouldn't have been improved by locations or special effects or extra music. Good theatre seems to feel like actually being there, makes you feel you were there when it happened, rather than watched it. Something like that. But often, watching something at the theatre is more like watching an extremely low budget movie, and feeling self conscious in case you make eye contact with the actors.
