Having been a daycare teacher is ever so useful - look what I can do:
The night Max wore his wolf suit
and made mischief of one kind
and another
his mother called him "wild thing"
and Max said, "I'll eat you up!"
and so Max was sent to bed without eating anything.
That night in Max's room
A forest grew
and grew
until the ceiling was hung with vines
and the walls became the world all around
and a ocean tumbled by with a private boat for Max
and so Max sailed in and out of days
and over a week
and through a year
until he came to the place where the wild things are
And when Max came to the place where the wild things are
they roared their terrible roars
and gnashed their terrible teeth
and showed their terrible claws
until Max said, "Be still!"
and tamed them with the magic trick of staring into all their yellow eyes without blinking once
[and then I always forget the next bit until except for]
"Let the wild rumpus start!"
[and I forget this part too, until]
and the wild things said, "Oh please don't do, we'll eat you up, we love you so!"
but Max said, "No!"
the wild things roared their terrible roars
and gnashed their terrible teeth
and showed their terrible claws
but Max climbed into his boat
and sailed through a year
and over a week
and in and out of days
until he reached his own room
where his dinner was waiting
and it was still hot.
Not too shabby for not having read it all the way through in probably ten years, am I right?
