Stolen from all over the place!

1. Pick 10 of your favorite books or series.

2. Post the first sentence of each book. (If one sentence seems too short, post two or three!)

3. Let everyone try to guess the titles and authors of your books.

All over the genre map!

Edited with such hints as will not give the remainders away

1.They say my mama, Miss Essie Mae Loggins, was the wildest girl in Marengo County, Alabama. Set in the Great Depression from the POV of a rather precocious nine-year-old girl; made into a movie in 1973 Paper Moon, ala roh_wyn Man, I LOVE that book. Honestly, I adore the movie, but if you haven't ever read the book, you ought to.

2. The deck of the French ship was slippery with blood, heaving in the choppy sea; a stroke might as easily bring down the man making it as the intended target. His Majesty's Dragon, courtesy of hearseeno

3. I'd been waiting for the vampire for years when he walked into the bar. Dead Until Dark, Sookie Stackhouse volume one, also by hearseeno.

4. Almost everyone thought the man and the boy were father and son. They crossed the country in a rambling southwest line in an old Citroen sedan, keeping mostly to secondary roads, traveling in fits and starts. Salem's Lot, guessed by roh_wyn

5. If you want to find [redacted]Lane all you have to do is ask the Policeman at the crossroads. He will push his helmet slightly to one side, scratch his head thoughtfully, and then he will point his huge white-gloved finger and say, "First to your right, second to your left, sharp right again, and you're there. Good-morning." Mary Poppins, also guessed by soubie.

6. I was bathing in a lake when I saw the unicorn. The water was cool and clear; the pollution had vanished years ago. This one's terribly obscure, even for fantasy geeks. The main character is male [which I find unusual when unicorns are involved], the author is not at all prolific, and a sequel is coming out...this month, I think OMG yay

7. I remember where I was and what I was doing when Bonnie Prince Charlie was killed. This is a full novel, with characters originally written in short story form in a shared urban fantasy universe

8. Theodore is in the ground. The words as I write them make as little sense as did the sight of his coffin descending into a patch of sandy soil near Sagamore Hill, the place he loved more than any on earth. Set late 1800s, a mystery using forensic science at the time

9. "Christmas won't be Christmas without any presents," grumbled [redacted], lying on the rug. 'Tis Little Women, guessed by one Just_ann_now

10. They didn't say anything about this in the books, I thought, as the snow blew in through the gaping doorway and settled on my naked back. All Creatures Great and Small, also provided by roh_wyn

and the super-easy 11:
When I stepped out in to the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home. The Outsiders, guessed by Miss soubie!
