update

So I actually have a thing or two to update about. This last weekend we went to Chez Howard to celebrate Miss Jane's first birthday. It was all family and us, but we won't hold that against anyone. We had fun. We usually see Jane in the evenings, so it was nice to see her during prime wakeful hours. We were all quite amused at the look she gave when we sung Happy Birthday. It was a mix of disgust and fear. She'll soon learn that it means cake right afterward. Speaking of cake, she was a little hesitant, but soon went at it with gusto. She was thoroughly covered in cake and ice cream by the end. She went right into the tub rather than the parents trying to wipe her down.

Work has been somewhat interesting these last couple of weeks. I haven't posted because I've been somewhat busy, plus I was bound by a strict NDA. But now that it has launched I can divulge some details. The client is Delta/NWA. They partnered with AmEx to do some promotions where you can sign up for an AmEx card and get a bunch of miles and possibly some other perks. We're functioning in a few different capacities. First, because of the details of the "deal" between the two companies, AmEx is not allowed direct access to Delta's member list. So we are the intermediaries. We also helped prep and clean the data to hand off to both an email vendor and a direct mail print vendor. Lastly, we built a website to act as a "landing page" for people where they can see the deal before going off to AmEx. A side bonus on that is we get to track all the traffic which can be a great marketing asset.

One downside is that we came into the picture a little late so we did not get to handle all of the "deal" management. Someone also made the not so wise decision that we didn't need to handle all of the click-through traffic. We had 1.2M emails and DM pieces sent out. We were not included on 5-6M other email offers. Maybe next time.

The whole development process was, um, interesting. I won't say much on an open post, but I can say that AmEx sure does love having meetings. I was on various calls 5 days a week for about 3 weeks. Some days had over 3 hours of calls. One day had me on over 6 fricking hours of calls! It was redukulus. But the IT guys I was working with are sharp and did a pretty good job.

So how's the campaign going? Thanks for asking! It is going much better than expected. The website is running smoothly (knock on wood). We've had a few odd things, but nothing major. The click-through rate is about what I expected but the redemption rate is much higher than I expected. (Can't give numbers.) Plus this project has had a whole lot of visibility on all sides (Delta, AmEx, and my company). I've got VPs calling and emailing me with questions and giving congratulations. It is kind of neat. Plus this is the largest consumer-facing website I've ever worked on. The website might only be 4 pages, but it is a big deal.

friends, work
