Dear Mr and Mrs Angier,
I have spoken to your daughter Lydia on a few occasions and I wish to formally and respectfully request your permission to court her. I have also met your son Edward briefly and assured him my intentions were nothing but honourable toward Lydia and he gave me his approval.
If you wish to meet me in person to judge for yourself please let me know by return letter. Miss Lydia did suggest we all have dinner at some time but you may want another simpler meeting with me prior to that to make your decision.
