Which carrier do you like best/least and why? Which do you find is the most affordable, flexible, and meets your needs?

1. Fido
2. Bell
3. Telus
4. Rogers
5. Virgin

I know nothing about any cell phones, but I was just in a Rogers video store and apparently they have a huge promotion going on right now.

We've been looking at cell phones for my mom, just so we can reach her. And my husband wants to get a cell phone again, too. I'm with Telus, but I'm not overly happen with them. We've been looking at Fido, but I want other opinions, too. :-)

I've had Rogers since I was 16 and really haven't had a big problem with them. Their coverage is pretty good around this area and if I have had a problem, it was nothing that a quick call to CS couldn't solve.

Ditto; though I have made more calls to CS than Bell users I know have, I seem to have better coverage and a call to CS almost always netted a solution

I have Solo Mobile. it's a part of bell (or at least sold through Bell). I got a phone for 130$, got some free air time during their promotion, it's pay as you go, get free text messages, and use it only as something to get ahold of people. I don't need MP3s, internet (although it has it on there for free). It's simple to use, phone cards last 75 days and are available in 20 or 30$ choices. the only downside is that it's 5$/month for voicemail. So I opted out of that...but I think that's a bell thing not necessarily a Solo thing.

Oh yes...it's 40c during the day and 3c after 6 or 7 or something. 40c for long distance.

About 2 1/2 years ago I had a Telus Pay-as-you-go phone thing going on. Cost $150 for the phone, activation, and a $50 card. It was $25/month for Unlimited incoming and local calls after 8 PM. You could add on extra texts and other things for fairly small amounts of cash. Worked really well for me, and the reception was still pretty good even out in the boonies.

If they have that plan still it's well worth it if you just need to take calls.

That may be a good option for my mom. I'm not happy with Telus for my needs, but mine are a lot different than hers. I'll take a look on their web site. Thanks :-)

CVool. yeah, if it's just to call her, great option. I had that to take calls when I was in a long-distance relationship so I could be afforded some privacy.

It was $30 for Unlimited incoming and local calls after 6 PM.

Looks like it's $30 a month now, but it's still a really great deal compared to contracted phones. Highly suggested! Really loved the plan. There's also a 25-cent deduction every month for 911 service fees so it won't be exactly $30/month.

Hope that helps some. :)

hey you!
I used to have Bell and I was really not happy with them. Their rates are pretty decent though ( for what I used it for anyways.) I recently cancelled with them because their coverage isn't that great. My cell phone didn't work in my apartment where both Rogers and Telus phones do. They also change their plans and policies a lot which is super frustrating and annoying.

They are not helpful when you have a problem where Rogers seems to bend a little bit. They also charged me an arm and a leg to change my number when a month before they told me it was free to change it.

I'm with Telus now. The coverage is great. I was going to go with either Rogers or Telus. Pretty much the deciding factor on Telus was that when I walked into the Rogers' store, no one helped me.

also, just to add if you have internet/cable, you should check into your service provider and see if they offer discounts for multiple services. I know Rogers does that here. ie. you get 10 per cent off for having phone, internet, cable.

I'm with Telus now and have been for the past three years and I'm really not happy with them. They've always been great in answering my questions and I don't have any qualms that way with them, but I find their rates, for what I need, to be a bit much. My last phone bill when I had to go out of province to work was $110.

Mainly right now I'm looking for my mom, and Telus may be a good option for her as we just want her to have a phone on her so we know where she is. It's more of a "in case of emergency" thing with her. And Josh wants one, too, again. For Josh we've been looking at Fido and may go with them, but for my mom we're still undecided.

why was it so much when you had to go out of province?

i only pay for long distance and they have about the same long-distance only rates as bell/rogers.

Maybe a pay as you go would be good for her then? It's so difficult. I would recommend staying away from contracts since they are pricey to get out of, and you never know where you'll be in two or three years and what her needs will be.
