Just got off the phone with my dad....and I took a minute to sit back and think about our relationship.  I am beyond thankful for what we have.  He has inspired me more than he will ever realize to begin this path I am walking.  He gives me all the encouragement I could ever need, and then more.  He believes in me, even when I do not really know if I'll become all I hope to become.

Then I thought about some of my friends, and the parents/adults they have in their lives.  Frank's mother stuck out in my mind, and the letter Christina recently got published in the Tribune about Christ's drilling policies, and I felt so happy that he has such an amazing woman in his life.  She is an inspiration to everyone that meets her and knows her, and I can see how she has shaped Frank into the amazing man he is today.  What a beautiful woman, remarkable does not even describe it.  And this letter will be treasure to him forever, as the writer he is.

I think sometimes we overlook those adult mentors we have, and it is something we really all need to stop and take a moment to reflect on, because unfortunately, one day all we will have left is their voices resonating in our minds, and the memories and lessons they have taught us. It is important for kids, all of us, from infant till we decide we are no longer kids (which I will never fully let go of) to have an adult in our life that inspires us to keep going.  To love ourselves, our goals, our desires.

I myself am so thankful.
