Selling Mom's jewelry: All Hands on Deck

May 01, 2013 20:37

So, I'm at the stage of selling some of Mom's jewelry -- she was a Washington, D.C., socialite and had impeccable taste. As did my father, who even designed some of the jewelry for her. The really good stuff is going to auction, but she had some mighty fine "everyday" jewelry, which I'm going through now and am beginning to offer at my Etsy store.

It's all mid-century hipster retro vintage, some gold and some sterling silver. A lot of it has vintage turquoise (she was a real turquoise fan). I have a pair of real Sperry-Univac cufflinks there for the geek-chic factor (hey, French cuffs are coming back in, ladies! and of course the gents are welcome to buy them too -- you'll get lots of stories from telling people how these are from Univac's glory days in the late 60s early 70s).

Most of the earrings are straight from the set of MAD MEN, I swear; I just love these, but I have to give up a lot right now, there's just too much of it piled up in the house. Plus, we need to buy food (yeah, really, jewelry for food...), and there's ...

... a tax lien that will be applied against my house on May 15th if I don't pay the $2000.00 tax bill.

And then there's the $2000.00 per month for our health insurance.

Elric is currently earning $1000.00 per month working parttime at a big-box store that shall not be named but you'd be right in thinking a TV show has been made about it. Sort of.

Do the math. $4000. $1000.

Yeah.

So, yeah. I need to raise funds. Again.

The Etsy store stuff is pennies, really, but it's a start. And if you feel like contributing more (see DONATE button on the right of my LJ [you have to view it in the regular view, not in your special Friends view], please feel free. Because I also ...

... need more dental work done. I hate Sjögren's Syndrome. I'm going to have more and more cavities (and root canal needs) the older I get. It's just part of the disease, dammit. And this cavity's been going on awhile, and I don't want to be in the situation I was in last October when a tooth abscessed and I ended up with two root canals and caps.

PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE YOU KNOW. Buy my mom's jewelry. Make a girl happy.

Plus: retro hipster mid-century stuff! What could be better than that?!
