Spike, the adopted "outdoor" tuxedo cat with many extra toes, has taken to spraying. As in marking territory.
In response, the tiny Abyssinian -- Rico -- starts peeing too.
They're both fixed (have been for several years now). We've tried Feliway (spray & the plug-ins). We've tried all sorts of behavior modification techniques. And yet Spike seems to feel the the rejection he gets from the other cats has come to this -- whenever they're hanging out with me, usually one of the other boys, he comes into the room and sprays. Rico retaliates (or starts in with the peeing if Spike has been hanging out in a room and Rico thinks the room should be "his").
Tonight Spike got my fancy, expensive, fabric cell window-shade in my bedroom. All we can do is soak it in the anti-urine stuff and hope it gets rid of the odor enough for the other cats not to take it as a challenge (or invitation to do more peeing).
I'm not a happy camper.
Any suggestions?
(I'm pretty damn good at multi-cat household psychology and such -- this is the first time we've had a group of boy cats who seem to keep challenging each other no matter what we do. Nobody's getting hurt, but the peeing HAS TO STOP. They've all lived with each other for YEARS. ::headdesk::)
