Baen update

No real news from North Carolina: Jim Baen remains in a coma, though we have reports from the hospital staff via Toni and Marla that he is resting comfortably and shows no signs of being in pain. The coma is persistent.

The office people I've spoken to daily -- Marla and Hank -- sound exhausted, slightly small, and wrung out. I can't blame them; they are shouldering most of the daily work to keep the business running (I can hear Marla saying with a smile, "So what else is new?"), but the wear is apparent. Please keep these people in your prayers and thoughts, including Toni and Jim's daughter, J--, as the coma continues and so much of the burdens fall to them.

(I read with amusement this morning how this news has morphed into "Jim Baen is in a coma and his wife and children are at his side." Um, no. Toni is not and never was Jim's wife, though they did have a child together back in the 90s before they split up -- Toni is now married to another man entirely [who is a knifemaker, which endears him to me immediately]. That child is not J--, though. J--, not Toni, has the awful burden of legal responsibility, I believe. I don't envy her. Been there, done that. It was awful.)

And so it goes ... It's still a waiting game, though with the main connecting vessel between the hemispheres damaged, if the thalmus recovers enough to let him wake up, one wonders how he will be. This is not a situation I would wish upon anyone.
