Done, about a half-hour ago. I didn't even have to stay up all night.
THERE ARE SPOILERS HERE (and said so in my cut)
This is totally disjointed; I only slept 5 hours or so:
I liked it, but it had problems. I thought the epilogue was not satisfying, but I thought the movement and momentum in this one was exciting. I didn't think there'd be a battle scene with major deaths so quickly, but there it was. Poor Hedwig.
There was loads to like, loads to dislike, but ultimately, I kinda feel like I've reached the end of a lesser Shakespeare comedy: everyone ends up married! Hooray for love! But I also had a good time, found it very enjoyable. I wish the epilogue had clarified what Harry did for a living, if he became an Auror. I don't know why that mattered so much to me.
I teared up once, when McGonagall is getting everyone ready for battle, that the time has come to defend Hogwarts. I thought the scene where Ron pulls Harry out of the lake with the sword and admits that danger isn't nearly as cool as it sounds was good.
I guess the things I didn't like was how predictable everything was. RAB's identity was crystal clear. I knew Snape had broken into Grimmauld Place to find something to remember by. As soon as they read the story about the Deathly Hallows, I knew Voldemort was trying to find the wand so he could kill Harry. But it didn't occur to the characters for awhile.
But quibbles aside, it was enjoyable. It was "The King Returns" and the one with the Ewoks, which meant it wasn't as good as what came before, it wrapped things up a little too nicely, and I have this strange sense of disappointment and loss mingled with happiness, that it worked out for Harry in the end.
All's well that ends well.
I'll probably return with more coherent thoughts later. Right now, I have to pick my dog up from the dog beauty shop.
