Writerly

It's been almost 2 years since I started on LJ. Wow, hasn't the time flown?

There was a Writers' Club event today, a special RSVP-if-you-want-to-go-to-it event. I organised a Guest Speaker to come and give us a workshop! The topic was "Reading as a Writer". I had been to this before, a few months ago, when it was given by the Marion Library Services (held in the Marion Cultural Centre), and loved it. I think my fellow club members liked it, too.
The guest speaker, Sue, was really nice, really friendly and chatty, putting each of us at ease. She's also an excellent teacher, so I feel like I did something really good by organising this for the club. I hope they feel like they went away from the meeting with a bit more -knowledge, or comfort about their writing, or a feeling of happiness- and I hope they remember this next year, and organise something like this again (I won't be President next year - yay!).

Maybe I'm not just rebuilding a club; maybe I'm actually building some sort of legacy - a foundation for the club to build on in future years.
Yikes! Heavy thoughts! But they leave me with a light feeling inside, a sort of fluffy happiness. I am pleased. :)

The workshop really inspired me back when I first took it, and it inspired me again today. So much, in fact, that I finished writing the clerihew that I have been working on for the last couple of months. :) Now I just have to type it -and the seasonal Haiku that I wrote in the workshop, when the others were working. (I'd read all the stuff before, of course, since I'd already taken the workshop, so I just sat there quietly, working on 4 separate Haiku and my clerihew, and troubleshooting if and when it was needed.)

So, all in all, a really productive day was had. And only on 5 hours sleep, too! It made me wonder - have I been getting too much sleep? Sometimes that can be as counter-productive as not getting enough...
