ARTICLE: Is Racism Why Chicago Lost the 2016 Olympics?
by Elaine North - www.elainenorth.com
Martin Luther King stated that “ Chicago is the most racist city in the U.S. ” From my experience living here, I find this to be true. In Chicago , typically, white people don’t speak to black people, and most black men here look broken. If a black person is smart looking, or makes an achievement, white people constantly pick on them with insults and abuses. It appears they don’t want to see smart looking black people, so that they can believe all black people are trash.
Chicago tried to fool the Olympic Committee, by putting Oprah out front as a spokesperson for the Olympics. Sure, Oprah is doing great. But when it comes to black people in Chicago , there’s only Obama and Oprah, and that’s the end of it. Countless other brilliant black people in Chicago striving in the arts and business are being starved out and literally stomped on to stop them from achieving.
You may have heard that some people in this country are marginalized. This means they are ostracized and excluded from every opportunity. Well, in Chicago marginalization of African Americans is a norm. In other cities, those that are successful extend help to those seeking opportunities, in Chicago the successful ones strictly stick to themselves and have nothing to do with those struggling and striving to get ahead.
I have a rich professional background, worked as a secretary at the United Nations, published author of six books and five screenplays, speak three languages, graduated with a history degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, but all this does not count for a can of beans in Chicago if you are not white, as a matter of fact it all work against me.
Chicago is a place that does not like writers and artists, so life is tough here for me as a writer. I am a published author of exceptionally good books and screenplays. I am able to survive slings and arrows here because I have a small business as an editor and ghostwriter of books, scripts, papers, dissertations and grants, from which I earn very little money, because there is no great sense of networking with African Americans in Chicago.
Maybe you can suggest to me where I should relocate.
