October is my favorite month. The weather in most states is fabulous--and if you're lucky you have gorgeous foliage. Here in California, all the kids are back in school, the tourists are back to work, and us locals get a personal vacationland. We have 70 degree days with a nice breeze and the beach all to ourselves. I was so worried I was going to miss out on one of the best weekends of the year because I came down with a fever and a sore throat on Saturday. But I drank a bunch of green tea and went to bed early and woke up Sunday well enough to go to the pumpkin patch!
Hubby and I have a tradition. He picks out the pumpkin and he carves it.

What do I do? I get to come along and take photos. And...cuddle with my cuddle pumpkin. But cuddle pumpkin had to stay in the patch. Hubby is the only one who gets a pumpkin.
From
Santa Barbara Oct 2008 Hubby is a much better pumpkin carver than me, and he gets very serious about his "art." No one is allowed help or make suggestions or go near him when he is "creating." Sound familiar? It's how I feel about my novel! So I totally understand hubby's pumpkin obsession and have vowed to steer clear when genius is at work.

Choosing the perfect pumpkin works up quite an appetite. So we went to the best taco place in all of Southern California: La Super Rica. Which is also Julia Child's favorite!

Santa Barbara Oct 2008 If you ever find yourself at La Super Rica...the absolute best item is number 13. That's right, 13 is good luck number when it comes to tacos. Number 13 is a soupy bowl of melted cheese and tomatoes. It comes with fresh-made tortillas so you can wrap and dip yourself a heavenly cheese creation. Yummy. The perfect treat to end a perfect October Sunday.
Up next: More conference notes and hopefully a photo of hubby's fantastic pumpkin art!
