Poll IMPORTANT QUESTION
I am scared that I will be required to drink sherry, in which case I'd have to do a complete rethink of my life plans. Maybe it depends on the kind of cat lady one is. Guinness is a classic for the more robust mad spinster, but I can't handle it because I am a lightweight. All thoughts good, question merely expressed as a poll to make it more tempting.
In other news, the previous post reminded me that the furthest-back matrilineal surname of which I am aware is my grandmother's grandmother, which is just Not Trying. Family history is annoyingly solipsistic and annoyingly intriguing in equal measure. Said surname is Smithm (pronounced Smitherum) which I feel would cause more spelling crises than my current one. Not that having a name made up of father's father's mother's name, followed by father's name, followed by default patrilineal-type surname, makes me in any way peeved at the complete one-sidedness of it.
That said, my mother would probably have called me Miranda or Joanna and it is hard to imagine m'self as either. But then it would be, for that is the way of names.
