Barbers

Does anyone know of a barber in Edinburgh who will accept to give a gent's haircut to a woman?

My partner just wanted the back cutting short, nothing fancy, and my usual barber turned her away with mutterings about 'can't do that, sorry, wouldn't know how' (as if women's heads are shaped differently from men's...).

The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I'd be interested in the answer myself.

That claims to do men and women. And therefore can apparently charge double for women: http://www.boombarbers.co.uk/bruntsfield.html

I'll give them a ring... but I'm not optimistic.

(Also, 17 quid for a men's haircut?!?!! I pay a tenner, though admittedly it's not a wet cut.)

Another friend on Twitter says that Boom Boys didn't charge them ladies amounts for their (short) hair.

Just rang and spoke to someone who was confused and said the person wanting the haircut would be best to come in first and talk to a stylist about what she wants before booking an appointment. *sigh*
She then put me on to a stylist who said it was fine and they could do it no problem, but I'm not *entirely* convinced it won't end up being a 'woman's haircut in a slightly masculine style'.

You could try the college's hair dressing salons - you'll get a trainee, so it'll take slightly longer than a normal salon, but they'll be learning to do all kinds of hair/style, so probably less likely to turn someone away for wanting a non-traditional haircut - http://www.edinburghcollege.ac.uk/welcome/leisure/salons/training_academies.aspx

These guys are friendly and down to earth: http://www.esqbarbers.com/

I suspect if you rang them and made it clear you wanted a "man haircut" they would be OK with that.

They said no.

I said she has the same shaped head as a bloke.

They said: 'Once we start doing one woman, we'll have to do all women'.

Fucktards.
