You expect a sales person to be helpful? That's not their job.
FWIW, Currys is in the same group (DSG) as Dixons and PC World. At one point DSG apparently made 85% of their profit through extended warranties, which I think is a better reason to dislike them.
I didn't think you were replying to me! I agreed with your comment too, I always go out of my way to help someone in my store, though some customers have really ruined my joy of working in retail
Ah! If that is what you meant then I do apologise for my harsh reaction. It looked like your comment was tacked onto bubblerat's comment - but - threads can be a tad confusing sometimes.
The comment only says it's not their job to help customers - i wouldn't agree with that completely. However, ultimately the main job of a sales assistant is to make as high a value of sales as possible. Sometimes that will involve being distinctly unhelpful to customers.
Currys (most of that group in fact) is generally a model of bad customer service - their staff are mostly poorly trained, disinterested, and sometimes outright liars. There are, I imagine, exceptions, but the best customer service I've ever had in dixons/currys/etc was mediocre.
If you went into a book store or art shop then you would normally be served by someone who was intelligent, helpful, and knowledgeable. I say "normally" - but - this has been the case every time so far I have put it to the test.
It is a pity that the standard of customer sales in high-street electronics / hardware stores is not as good.
My personal favourite was where a store was trying to sell one particular brand of HDTV. I wandered through the store with a friend and saw a row of HDTVs displaying low-grade videos, with one at the end of the isle showing high quality output.
A salesperson was telling a customer how that one model was the best one. I exclaimed to my friend, very loudly, how cheeky it was for the store to delebrately deceive their customers like that. I know that they get more money for selling certain brands but they don't have to be quite so devious about selling them!

I do not think that bubblerat was suggesting that all sales assistants were unhelpful. Is it not a bit excessive to call her arrogant and ignorant?
