A disconcerting spam

Dec 04, 2006 18:32

I received an otherwise typical "Smart Money Equities" spam today... what was remarkable was that the sender line said "Dale Trotter."

(For my non-Seattle friends: Dale Trotter was a remarkably articulate Seattle leather person whose frequent BBS posts were outrageous and shocking even for the leather/bdsm world, yet oddly moving. He died of AIDS maybe ten years ago or so.)

I wonder whether this was was a randomly computer-concocted name, or whether spammers are combing cyberspace for real people's names.
