Self-Righteous Bus Bullies
Today there were a bunch of kids on my bus who were all picking on this one girl. They were hitting her and calling her names and giving her the cold shoulder at times ... so I told them to leave her alone.
Kid 1 - "Who are you?"
I'm Jess. And I'm pissed. So leave her alone.
Kid 1 - "Why are you pissed?"
Because some people are just self-righteous bastards. Now leave her alone.
Kid 2 - "What?"
Kid 1 - "I think she just called us religious bastards ..."
I did not. Just leave her alone.
Kid 2 - "It's okay. She's our friend."
Is she?
Kid 2 - "We've been friends for a really long time. She doesn't mind."
Really? You honestly think that?
*momentary pause*
Kid 3 & 4 - "Shut up."
I did shut up, but you know what? They didn't touch her again. And I was very glad.
I do believe that we can all be self-righteous bastards, and are most of the time. It's human nature, I think. But I think we can change.
We should help each other our more often.
