666 again...

So, I was turning off the TV when I heard a reporter say something about it being 6/6/6 and then he said, "is it the end of the world? Hear what Oklahomans think tonight at 9." Um...does anyone actually think it is??? It wasn't 100 years ago or 200 or any of the other 1800 years before that...Isn't 666 just something pulled out of someone's ass ( Read more... )

666 has been listed as the devil's number for quite some time (although I'm not sure where it originated). I doubt though that anyone really thought the world was going to end yesterday. They'd be quite stupid to think so. I mean we've passed several 6-6-6 days before (1906, 1806, etc.) with no real result. So why anyone would think otherwise is beyond me.

That was my point. Being part of the news media (even though it's just a school paper) I'm disappointed that is what we reported about yesterday in OKC. Honestly, something more important had to have happened...

We had similar reports in the news here in Houston. I think a lot (but not all) of the news media is dumb in general. This is just an example of that.

The number originates from the Book of Revelation in the Bible. And it refers to a name or mark, not a date. John "The Revelator" is believed by most scholars to have been referring to Nero Caesar, the emperor at the time, and a persecutor of Christians, whose name added up to a number of 666. Other Christian scholars believe the number refers to something else. World Wide Web "WWW" supposedly adds up to 666 in some numerology methods. And every bar code contains three 6's. But as with my most prophecy, it is subject to various interpretation.
