Name: Edward “Edge” Geraldine
Canon Point: After defeating Zeromus and returning to Earth, before Cecil and Rosa’s wedding
Is this character dead? Amazingly, no
History: [
Here]
Personality: At first glance, Edge can be described as brash, impertinent, over-bearingly egotistical, and irreverently arrogant. He always has a desire to be the center of attention, and in ways like this, he personifies all the worst aspects of a prince. He is confident (at times overly so) and can be self-centered. He can also be very conceited to a point that borders on narcissistic. Beneath that exterior is a heart dedicated to both his country and his people. He's far more kind-hearted than is belied by his demeanor, and his love for his people goes even farther than his love for himself. He is loyal to a fault to his friends and his family, vowing at his parents’ deaths to make them proud and take care of Eblan.
He’s quick to anger and prone to leaping before looking when his emotions are called into play, be it revenge, anger, or excitement. He’s prone to believing his ideas are the best, and never hesitates to let his opinion be known. In all honesty, he has no knowledge of a verbal filter, and will say the first thing that enters his mind without thought of how those words might affect someone else. When first meeting the party, his first conscious statement is of how cute the girls, Rydia and Rosa, were and that he wouldn’t mind travelling with him just because of that. Later, when waking Yang with the frying pan gotten from his wife, having never met the man, Edge stated there was no way he was travelling with a half-dead idiot and that he was probably a better fighter anyway.
Kain actually makes the statement, “And he is a prince? His behavior belies his station,” and it’s very true. Edge comes across quite often as nothing but a spoiled brat who was told too many times growing up that he was the best at everything he tried to do. Beneath all that, though, is a loyalty and dedication borne of sheer love of his people that makes him unshakable to the core. Once Edge puts his mind to something, it’s impossible to convince him otherwise. When the party falls to a lower level of the Tower of Babil when attempting to reclaim the dark crystals from Golbez, he immediately jumps to the conclusion they need to steal one of the enemy’s airships. It never occurs to him this plan could fail. When he’s first introduced, he’s run off from his people without backup to face Rubicante, the Elemental Archfiend of Fire in single combat to avenge the deaths of his parents. He never hesitates. He simply gets a thought of action in his head and acts upon it.
This extends to his more social pursuits as well. He took a liking to Rydia on a physical level as soon as he saw her, and it broke his heart to see her crying over all the losses the party had suffered, and he said as much. “I can’t stand to see a pretty girl cry.” Along with his dedication to station and unshakable will, Edge has a fairly thick band of chivalry within him. He ‘allowed’ the party to join because they had a bone to pick with the Archfiends as well, though his was a lot more personal. During his travels with the party, though, his feelings for Rydia started to grow. Starting out as a physical attraction colored by a desire to protect her, he started to like her on a more personal level. Unlike all the other girls he’d spoken with who were always so receptive to his flirtatious demeanor and complimentary lines, Rydia laughs, brushes him off, and asks him things like “you must be joking.” Very shortly after joining the party, Edge spends a lot of his time trying to talk to Rydia with no success. To him, she’s very much a challenge he has to surmount, but he also cares for her a great deal more than he ever has another girl who’s caught his attention. He’s the victim of a lot of confusion because of it as well. He can’t stop thinking about her, but it feels like something he can’t control has gotten the better of him and he should ignore it, but he can’t stop stalking her either, just to see what she’s doing and satisfying that curiosity.
In short, Edge is cocky, self-assured, reckless but smart, loyal, dedicated, and amorous. He can be painfully blunt, but most of the time couldn’t care less whose feelings are hurt by his honest opinions.
Skills | Powers: Edge is a ninja, the years of training of which have given him extremely high evasion, specialized ninja combat skills, and the ability to cast ninjitsu magic. He’s also ambidextrous, which allows him to duel wield various weapons with great skill. He is well-versed in combat with
kunai,
Katana, Throne weapons like giant
Shuriken, and
clawed weapons.
He’s skilled with thrown weapons, such as daggers and stars, pick-pocketing, sneaking, stalking, and moving silently. A full list of his Ninjitsu Magic can be found
here.
His magic is limited by his spirit energy, which isn't particularly high. He could only cast at most five of his magical skills before needing to rest.
Another big limitation he has are his own mouth and his pride. He doesn't think about anything before he says it, and isn't afraid to speak his mind, which can piss people off. His hubris makes him over-confident sometimes, and nearly gets him killed by Archfiends of Fire.

Third Person Sample: The nearby waterfall covered the rustling sounds of his clothing as he walked behind the girl he’d followed so many times before. Trained reflexes guided his nimble steps into the footprints left by the woman, effectively covering the skilled ninja’s tracks. Being downwind from the green-haired beauty served him two-fold: there wasn’t a way for her to catch a whiff of blade oil from his many weapons and he was able to smell her hair, which smelled like daisies, just like it always did. Those eyes, that smile (that he rarely got, he had to admit at least to himself), that innocent ringing laughter, belied Rydia’s fiery nature. He grinned wickedly at the thought. For all her naivety, Rydia was a firecracker, and the way she brushed off him, Edge, Prince of Eblan, ruffled his feathers more than he’d care to admit.
She was an enigma that never ceased to confuse him. Before she’s walked into his life, it had been fairly simple. He’d trained, he’d flirted with the women around the castle, he’d learned what it meant to be a ruler from his father, he’d slept, and he’d repeated. That had all changed the day the assault had come. His parents were taken, leaving Eblan in his hands. He hadn’t been prepared, but it was something he’d been raised to do. He’d always been loved by his people, and they’d taken to his rule easily enough. Sometimes they were too doting, though. It seemed to Edge like they though he couldn’t take care of himself. He knew for a fact one of his new advisers though him a reckless and egotistical boy who was just going to get himself killed. He breathed a silent scoff at the thought as he quickly and silently slid behind a rock as the path Rydia walked took her around a bend, putting him into her line of sight if she turned in his direction. He was always careful.
He gave himself a quiet accolade at his own evasion. Sometimes he was so awesome, he surprised even himself. He waited until she’d turned a bend in the path and came out of hiding and a stray thought about some ceremony or something he was supposed to be attending soon came into his mind. He dismissed it immediately. The ceremony could wait, and wasn’t that what ‘fashionably late’ was for anyway? He had a summoner to watch, after all.
Who was heading off the beaten path to a spring. This might just be his lucky day.
