Dance Introspection

Jul 08, 2009 14:37

Talking with a fellow dancer last night about other people's dance styles, I realized we don't really know much about our own dance styles, from an outside point of view.

If you've danced with me, or watched me dance - how would you describe my dance style?
Be as descriptive (or simple) as you'd like.

You're very technical in your dancing.

It might be fun to set up a dance stylings workshop to help people develop and become aware of their style. We'd just need a camera, a studio, and some basic editing. On the cheaper/easier side of things, you can always dancing front of a mirror at one of the venues with mirrors.

I think I'm going to steal this idea for myself too if you don't mind.

Thank you.

Interesting idea.
I'm good with the video idea, but I don't think watching myself dance in a mirror has ever helped me at all - too confusing.
On that front - there's a rumor you're taking over SNW in September - any truth to that?

Steal the idea - just credit me :)

I am taking over if Scott ever gets me in contact with the people who are in charge at the Veterans Hall. I need a name for it though, still open to suggestions. I'm going to add more tango, swing, blues flavor to the event, as Scott wants to make sure it's not Friday Night Waltz anymore.

RE: Video - I have a video camera, though no tripod. Someone who has final cut can probably help with editing (I don't have it, though I can use it).

Honestly - I'm jealous and annoyed.

I have a digital camera with more than capable (640x480, 30fps) video capture, &/or a video iphone that uploads directly to youtube on the fly.
I have a mimi-tripod, etc.

well, I can probably set up time at the sunshine biscuit factory without much of a problem. It could be a fun workshop/event.

I have a full sized tripod, if you ever need to borrow it. It works with both video cameras and digital cameras.
