Two notices on the noticeboard, with varying degrees of accurate spelling rewritten by Gen:

If any here have information regarding the whereabouts of Mr. Alexander Misurov, please advise Mr. Edgar Huntly. He may be found in the main hall between the hours of noon and three.

and also, in much larger letters,

And here is Helen, with Gen in tow. "Mr Huntly. Mr Watanabe tells me you could use some assistance."

He only jumps a little at the suddenness of the voice; Spade has put him on edge. When he recognizes it as Helen's, though, he turns to shake her hand. "Ah, he has found you! I must confess, this may be far out of your field of specialty, but have you ever heard of a--" and he tries very hard to remember all of the syllables "--rusalka?"

"No, not out of my field at all, in fact. They are actually quite common in many Slavic mythologies. Have you found one here?"

Gen raises his eyebrows at Edgar, as if to say "How interesting."

He raises his brows in return; he is not entirely sure what Gen means by the gesture, but he hopes it is not a reproachful one.

He nods. "He appeared to me as a boy, but one of my friends had a far less pleasant encounter--he has done me the service of writing down his experience." He hands her Sam's notes.

Gen says, "Any developments while I was gone?"

"I met Mr. Misurov, and he explained that my idea was impracticable due to the nature of rusalka. I also met Mr. Spade, as I told Miss Rossi" he gestures toward the papers "and now I am not entirely sure that it would be wise to bring Kavi back, even if I could."

"Oh."

Without looking up, Helen says "What did Mr. Misurov say, about the nature of rusalka?"

"That they are a wish," he answers. "A wish to live, he said, and nothing more."

She smiles a little to herself. "That is an interesting way to look at it, but accurate enough, I suppose."

"And that they are fully dead, and not partially dead, but that hardly made sense to me; he was mostly solid, and mostly warm--"

"They are deceptive; it is their nature. Granted, I have never met one. I only know the stories."
